December Check-In
December is now underway!
I hope wherever you are the weather is tolerable, the cheer is palpable, and you have all the peace, comfort and love you need! We’re doing well here in my family. In fact, we found out some exciting news! You’ll have to keep guessing until the next newsletter what the news is, though. Until then, know that I’m a busy little elf making the season magical for my littles!
I learned some interesting facts recently: those who enjoy horror media tend to rate higher in empathy inventories (specifically “perspective taking”) and lower for coldheartedness; those who enjoy horror movies tend to enjoy reading and read more than non-horror consuming peers; a majority of individuals who enjoy horror watch with at least one other person and/or were introduced to horror by a family member.
All of this to say that horror people love community, love each other, and love books.
Welcome to the family!
Anywho, onto the writing!
I’m eagerly awaiting the remnants of feedback for my current draft of Maryann. I’ve already been thinking about what I may need to do when it’s back in my hands based on the feedback I have received.
Beta forms will be going out extremely soon – that will probably be linked in its own email so be sure to check your inboxes! I expect that I’ll be able to send out the draft to betas around the New Year with the deadline for feedback coming in February. Then, I hope I’ll have the energy to push the manuscript to polish and begin querying the beginning of March!
As you may have seen on my site, one of my poems has been selected for publication on Unleash Lit come February! I’m excited!
I’m still waiting to hear back from Hexagon as to the status of my submission for a short story, and I have a couple upcoming submission openings logged into my calendar for some more of my work.
The folklore/historical fiction/paranormal romance genre bending thing I’ve been drafting is at the halfway point. I’m not sure where it belongs, to be honest. Obviously if I contract with Maryann, I’ll be required to publish this book the same way (at least I think). At the same time, I see it as a blend of a graphic novel and an illustrated/light novel. There are two artists I have in mind for it should it come to that. Especially should I end up self-publishing. BUT right now it’s just a fledgling and it gives me something to focus on while waiting to polish up Maryann.
I may have a cool web-based writing project on the horizon — stay tuned! ;P
Now, a little message
I finished my first ARC, which was the first in a fantasy/romantasy series by Larissa Antonioni (@authorlarissawrites on IG) called, A Realm of Lies and Power. I enjoyed it and it gets an easy 4 stars from me! I’ll be posting more on socials about it come closer to the release date, but the e-book preorder is live here:
