November Check-In
This part of the year always feels like a slip-and-slide to me; once Halloween hits, we’re immediately thrown into the bustle of Thanksgiving and the extravagance of the Christmas season. Regardless of what fall/winter holidays you celebrate, the end of the year fast approaches at this point and it scarcely seems like I can snag a breath!
I’m not complaining though - I love this time of year! Here in New England, awaiting the first snowfall is always exciting, and more than that I love to see the n’oreasters that coat the bare tree branches around my house in a scintillating layer of ice. It weighs down the birches until they bend into arches (read: Robert Frost, Birches). The branches will creak together and the ice will throw off amazing, glittery light…As an adult, I inwardly groan at all the work snow and ice takes. But even so, the childhood wonder within me remains and I want nothing more than to build a fire in the cast iron stove, brew up a cuppa or some cocoa, and hunker down. It’s the perfect atmosphere for writing, reading, or watching a Christmas movie.
Speaking of which - how early do you start watching Christmas movies?
I’d have already started but my husband begs me to hold off until after Thanksgiving at the earliest, beginning of December if I can stand it. 😂 I try comply.
Anywho - onto writing news!
I have been sending short story, flash fiction, and poetry submissions out into the literary publication sphere. I’ve received a few rejections but am waiting on hearing either way from most publications.
Maryann is still in the extremely capable hands of my alpha reader husband who is very kindly and very diligently taking his time with the manuscript to help prepare it for beta readers.
I am building my beta reader interest form, so stay tuned! Newsletter subscribers will have first access to the form! I hope to have the manuscript sent out to betas in December.
If you haven’t already, go ahead subscribe to my newsletter for even more glimpses into my writing, my life, and my media recommendations.
